Start here: most problems are fixed by updating. YTWatch 2.2.2 (October 28, 2026) fixed the “Video unplayable” error and playlists that wouldn’t load. See what’s new.
Update to the latest version
Update YTWatch from the App Store on your iPhone. To keep the watch app current, turn on automatic updates for your watch: open the Watch app on iPhone, tap App Store and switch on Automatic Updates.
“Video unplayable” or a video won’t start
This error was fixed in version 2.2.2, so update first. If a particular video still won’t play:
- Check that the watch is online (Wi‑Fi, cellular, or connected through your nearby iPhone).
- Try a lower Video quality in YTWatch’s settings on the watch.
- Close YTWatch and open it again, then try another video to see whether it’s one video or all of them.
Still stuck? Email us the video’s title or link — see Contact support.
Videos load slowly or buffer
- Lower the video quality. In YTWatch’s settings, a setting like 240p loads much faster than higher resolutions.
- Check the connection. On a cellular watch, look at the signal; on a Wi‑Fi watch away from your iPhone, make sure it has joined a Wi‑Fi network in Settings → Wi‑Fi.
- Give it a moment. The first video after opening the app can take a little longer while the player starts.
Playlists won’t load
A bug that stopped playlists from loading was fixed in version 2.2.2. Your own playlists also need you to be signed in — see the next section.
The watch keeps asking me to sign in
Subscriptions, Liked Videos, Playlists and your Home feed need your Google account. Explore, Search and channel pages work without signing in.
- Open YTWatch on your iPhone and, under Account, tap Sign in with Google.
- Open YTWatch on your watch while your iPhone is nearby so the account can sync.
- If it still asks you to sign in, make sure both are on the latest version, then sign out and sign in again on iPhone.
Sign-in uses Google’s official OAuth flow — YTWatch never sees your password. You can remove YTWatch’s access any time in your Google account permissions.
The app closes or returns to the watch face
- Update to the latest version.
- Restart your Apple Watch.
- If it keeps happening, delete YTWatch from the watch and install it again. This clears your local watch history.
If none of that helps, please email us your watch model, watchOS version and what you were doing when it closed. It’s a one-person project, so details really speed things up.
No sound
Turn the Digital Crown while a video is playing to raise the volume.
Premium, free trial and refunds
- Free trial: Premium starts with a 7-day free trial. To avoid being charged, cancel at least 24 hours before the trial ends.
- Cancel: on iPhone, open Settings, tap your name, then Subscriptions, and choose YTWatch.
- Refunds: refunds are handled by Apple, not by us. Request one at reportaproblem.apple.com.
- Premium isn’t active: make sure your devices use the same Apple Account you subscribed with. If it still isn’t active, email us with the purchase date.
Can I download videos?
No. Videos are streamed through YouTube’s player, and downloading or extracting content isn’t supported — that’s a requirement of YouTube’s Terms of Service.
Device requirements
Apple Watch with watchOS 11.4 or later. The companion app requires iOS 18, iPadOS 18, macOS 15 on Apple silicon, or visionOS 2.
